Cambria SLO Soles Walk
8 June 2003

On 8 June 2003, about 20 of use got together under gray skies to test walk the Cambria event again. Most of the Wild Flowers from April were gone but this did not take away from the beauty of the walk. There was a sight breeze that made you want a coat, one thing about Cambria, you never know what the weather will be like.

Now that we have the walk "dialed in", we believe we will offer three distances on this walk, 6.5K, 10K and 12K. The East West Ranch loop, at the beginning, measured out at 6.5K with the full walk to Leffingwell Landing measuring at 12K. Walkers will have the option to turn around before getting to Leffingwell to make a 10K walk.

The walk starts in Shamel Park in Cambria.
The walk winds along the street of Cambria to the East West Ranch.
The view to the north from the East West Ranch, was just as beautiful under the gray skies as it was under the clear skies in April.
As the walk winds along the bluff, it crosses a couple of small gullies on some very interesting bridges.
The Trail along the bluff is very well worn and easy to follow.
What can I say, you just want to sit and watch the ocean.
At the south end of the Ranch, the walk goes onto the streets to raise up to the top of the ridge. This is a simple short hill. At the top the walk passes through on of the Ranch public access gates.
As you walk along the top of the hill, it is hard to believe that you are as close to houses as you are. You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere.
As you exit out of the north end of the ranch you come back into the residential streets of Cambria. There are many beautiful homes in this part of town. From here you head back down the hill to Shamel Park.
From Shamel Park you head north to Moon Stone Drive. The fist part of this walk is a little tricky, you are walking on the edge of the road, but here is very little traffic. Once on Moon Stone Drive, the Ocean is on one side and a number of small cute hotels on your other side.
The first part of the path is again on a well traveled dirt path. This leads to a wooden board walk to Leffingwell Landing.
Moon Stone Beach.
The squirrels almost play between your feet.
You can often see Sea Lions or Elephant Seals basking in the sun.
The view back to the south from Leffingwell Landing.
