The walk starts at the Southside
Coffee Company. From the outside this is a very plain looking place,
but once inside it is very cozy and comfortable. As you enter the
first table you see is a large round broken tile mosaic. There are
other tile table with chess boards built into them. IT is a very warm
and friendly place. |

There is a 3 km option
up a BIG hill. Six of us took the option and climbed to the top of the
hill. The trail is paved but weeds are growing up through the
pavement. It was a big climb. Here are some view of the road.
The bottom picture is a view of Lompoc from the
road on the way up. It is a great view but nothing compared to the
top. |

 |
Here are the six of us
at the top and the view from the top. This walk was worth the view, it
would be even better when the fields are in bloom. I do plan to come
back here some day. |
 |
As we turned to go
back down the hill we were greeted by this sign. It seemed out of
place, share the road with buses! |

|
The walk takes you to
the ruins of the original site of the Mission de la Purisima
Conception de Maria Santisima. You have to look around a little to
find the actual ruins. Look to the east side of the street. |

Beattie Park was the
next stop. As you enter the park you are greeted by a large soccer
field. This was a very nice park and a great place to eat lunch if you
brought it with you. At the back of the
park is the Urban Forest Area and Fitness Course (I have always called
the par courses). Follow the paved road off the the right (west) up
the hill to the gazebo and a partial view of the ocean and town.

Lompoc offers a kind of
step back in time to me. The older looking auto parts store, the
Veterans Building, the tree lined street, the older houses and the
museum. |

As you walk through the
down town area keep your eyes open. There are murals everywhere. Big
ones, small ones, fancy ones and simple ones. |
