Newsletter 2003 July 1

Issue 1, Volume 1

Welcome to the first edition of the SLO Soles Newsletter.  This is a quarterly newsletter that, if all goes well, will include a President’s Message, Upcoming Events, Treasurer Report, and Meeting Minutes.  So here we go!

President’s Message:

I am so thrilled to be up and running as a club. I feel particularly blessed that everything came together and as quickly as it did! We have many people to be grateful to for their help and support starting with Herm Husbands (Regional Director) for answering my questions and putting me in touch with Bill Utteneiler (not sure if Bill feels blessed!!!). Bill has been our primary source of information and spent hours on the phone enlightening and encouraging us. A huge thank you to Herb Webber (State President) for getting our paperwork to Herm and for the warm welcome we received in Stockton at the state convention. Incredible thanks go to the Big Valley Vagabonds for their generous contribution to our club, really gave our treasury a huge boost and will make it so much easier to get started. We are sad that they are disbanded but hope to carry on their "spirit of walking ".  We have a fabulous core group to launch the SLO Soles and are looking

forward to getting the word out about our existence.  Our first sanctioned event in Cambria is right around the corner. I am proud of this walk, it's fantastic and everyone will love it!  The SLO Soles have made much progress in our first months. Cafe Vio has

agreed to be the start point for our Paso Robles YRE. Paperwork is ready to be sent off to make it official. As soon as we get a confirmed start point in Cambria that paperwork is ready to go in for a second YRE.  Work has already been started on the Bob Jones Trail in Avila and Morro Bay for two more YRE's for next year. We hope to host a sanctioned event in October in Paso Robles to launch that YRE and one next July for the Bob Jones Trail.

Thank you to everyone for making our walks so much fun! If we make any mistakes we can plead ignorance but we are doing great!! Special thanks to Melissa and Kimo for their enthusiasm and press releases, Bob Schrempp for the web site, the GPS guru, and just generally taking the ball and running with it, Katie Schrempp for taking over the newsletter and being an excellent walking companion, Mike and Wanda for cheerful participation, Elaine, Janice, Cindy, Linda, Laura, Laurinda and all the others for coming out to play!!
